Here are 5 dog training exercises you can do every day at home:
1. *Sit*: Hold a treat above your dog's head and move it backwards towards their tail. As they follow the treat with their nose, their bottom will lower into a sitting position. Once they're in the sit position, say "Sit" and give them the treat.
2. *Stay*: Start by having your dog sit or lie down, then take a few steps back and say "Stay." If they get up, go back to the beginning and try again. Gradually increase the distance and time you're away from them.
3. *Down*: Lure your dog into a downward position by holding a treat near their chest and slowly moving it down towards the ground. As they follow the treat, they'll naturally lie down.
4. *Leave It*: Place a treat in front of your dog and say "Leave It." If they try to take the treat, cover it with your hand and say "No." When they leave the treat alone, praise them and give them a different treat as a reward.
5. *Heel*: Practice walking with your dog on a leash, saying "Heel" as you go. If they pull ahead, stop and encourage them to come back to your side before continuing the walk.
Remember to keep training sessions short and fun, and to reward good behavior with treats and praise!
